Vital Statistics has 14 unix servers used for its database and middle tier systems. The core data warehouse, VISION, is accessed through several web and web form applications. Highway Three has participated in the development and deployment new applications related to Vital Statistics security. Some of the achievements over the 7 year term have been:

• Custom compiling and configuring Apache 2 on Solaris 10, including rewrite rules, virtual hosts, SSL, client SSL rules, and Awstats to mine the log files so that the client can monitor the website statistics and usage;
• Deploying mid-tier architecture for secure access to Ministry, including securing the administrator access, and implementing java security policies for meta-data reports in Jasper
• Design and implementation of the Authorization and Authentication mechanisms for Web and Database applications
• Implementing strict firewall zones for secure application and database access.
• Creating a suite of middle tier architecture documentation using PowerPoint, Visio, and HTML. This operational and as-built documentation was vital to the ongoing understanding and maintenance of the middle tier architecture.
• Upgrading the infrastructure from Oracle 9iAS to 10GR1, and then to 10GR3
• Upgrading the databases from Oracle 9i to 10GR2
• Configuring Computer Associates then Grid Control for monitoring
• Pl/SQL programs for maintenance and application development
• HTML/CGI script development for front facing secured websites
