<p>An interview with a cloud migration expert: Krista</p> <p><strong>Hi Krista, How long have you been helping companies with digital transformation?</strong></p> <p>Since before there was Google! A looong time.</p> <p><strong>How do your clients see the cloud migration process?</strong></p> <p>They often see it as a “moving house” process, where it might not be enjoyable at first but the end result is a brand new residence for their data and work. They might not be able to visualize the journey to cloud, so it is often not a very detailed picture in their minds, which can create hesitancy for the decision makers.</p> <p><strong>What are your first steps when meeting with a client on their decision to migrate to cloud?</strong></p> <p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WFvmfsc7os" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WFvmfsc7os">We try to give a high level overview of their upcoming migration journey </a>– helping them understand where we might go as a team and how we can support their migration best.</p> <p><strong>How does your role contribute to a migration? What do you do?</strong></p> <p>We are the guide for helping you prepare, putting things in the right places, and sorting through your priorities for your next Cloud instances. We are familiar with the important tools, materials, and approaches for migrating your data; and since these things might be new or unfamiliar to you, it’s great to partner together to tackle bigger projects.</p> <p><strong>What is something that surprises your clients about cloud migration?</strong></p> <p>People aren’t sure what the journey looks like from start to finish; we spend a<strong> lot</strong> of time preparing and it sometimes looks like nothing is happening. Then testing begins and the activity multiplies quickly. This is a big part of the service we provide; we push for the importance of testing, and provide the strategy to do it correctly. Our clients are often surprised that Migration Day itself is simple, small, and not our biggest milestone as we are <strong>mega-prepared</strong> for that moment.</p> <p><strong>What is a simple way that working with an Atlassian Partner like Highway Three improves the whole process?</strong></p> <p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axd3pWSX6H4" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axd3pWSX6H4">We manage the project of your migration with Confluence; </a>We guide you using Atlassian tools so you can experience them in real time. We want to use the migration as an example for how your Atlassian Cloud can look, so its kind of like getting a “sneak peek” into how it will look at the end. Asking questions about functionality can be easier when you see the solution in real time. </p> <p><strong>In what way do you see significant organizational change because of migrating to cloud?</strong></p> <p>The biggest change comes in lower overhead &amp; maintenance costs for Cloud. You can just use the tool for what the tool is for; you don’t have a whole team there to manage the tool. Some prefer to not give up the control that on-premise Atlassian programs have, but it gives you the ability to pivot those labor hours used for systems maintenance and refuel your organization for client success. </p> <p><strong>Anything else to share with us about Cloud Migration?</strong></p> <p>It is important to acknowledge the pain of having to change tactics and move to cloud. The process may take longer than you budgeted, or your reliable strategies for communication might be disrupted; we understand your interest in maintaining security and calm during a transition.
